16 Horses Dead Throughout New Mexico and California: The Importance of Coggins Testing

Recent outbreaks of the deadly virus, ๐™€๐™ฆ๐™ช๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™š ๐™„๐™ฃ๐™›๐™š๐™˜๐™ฉ๐™ž๐™ค๐™ช๐™จ ๐˜ผ๐™ฃ๐™š๐™ข๐™ž๐™– (๐™€๐™„๐˜ผ), across New Mexico and California, have left 16 horses dead and raised significant concerns within the equine community.

Infected horses can be silent carriers, but they could exhibit more severe symptoms such as fever, anemia, swelling and weight loss. Horses that survive the acute phase become lifelong carriers, posing a continuous risk of transmission to other horses.
