Third Party Prescriptions – 2026 Approval Fee Increase 

Beginning January 1, 2026 – For clients who use pharmacies other than our clinic, including online pharmacies, our third-party prescription request fee will increase to $25. This fee covers staff time spent on the phone with third-party pharmacies, updating and maintaining records and verifying prescription details. Prescriptions ordered directly from our clinic do not incur this fee.

While third-party pharmacies are an option, many clients choose to purchase medications directly from our clinic because:

• Guaranteed quality and authenticity: Medications purchased from Skillman Veterinary Services come from trusted, regulated veterinary suppliers, reducing the risk of counterfeit, improperly sourced or poorly stored products.

• Professional oversight and support: Our team can answer questions and provide immediate guidance.

• Support for local veterinary care: Purchasing through your veterinarian, rather than an online pharmacy corporation, helps support local, independent practices and continued access to in-clinic and emergency services.

To be eligible for third-party prescriptions, your horse must have had a current annual exam, which cannot be completed during an emergency visit. If you are ordering from a third-party, we encourage clients to plan ahead and request prescriptions in bulk or for multiple refills whenever possible to help minimize costs and staff time.
